Weak in Review: Aug. 3-9

So, around Thursday night I started feeling a little dizzy off and on. Yeah, I thought it was strange but figured it would pass. Friday brought an infection in one of my molars; obviously, this was shaping up to be a banner week.

Monday, I found out a cousin of the Mrs.'s was coming in from Cali to visit, and we'd be lunching on Wednesday. This was the same Wednesday we were all going to an alumni dinner up in Dobbs Ferry, so as long as schedules didn't conflict that was fine w/me.

Then the tooth infection got really bad. Unbearable, really. Unbearable enough to head immediately for the dentist, my only true fear. I knew it was the molar plus an impacted tooth I have above another one that was giving me this grief, and both needed to be addressed ASAP. And the dizzy spells were worsening in both frequency and intensity. This resulted in me going to the neurologist's office Monday too. My regular guy was on vacation (which explained why I was having a hard time with a certain prescription refill - not Vicodin or Lyrica, thank God), so I saw another doctor there. Turns out I now have... DUM DA DA DUM... benign Vertigo. More meds prescribed, and now I have to avoid operating heavy machinery and driving even when not under the influence of drugs. He said it will pass in a few weeks, but will also probably come back once a year during the hot season. Shit.

Wednesday brought a fuckin' storm (and an actual tornado, which was mildly amusing since it landed in the neighborhood where someone I used to call 'friend' had lived for years) which flooded our building's lobby and garage - fortunately, we can't afford to pay for garage space here in the building, so our car was untouched by it - and left us without elevators or hot water because the boiler went tits up. Plus, all subways went to shit. This is important because the Mrs. didn't want to drive to the lunch that day. After having to nearly twist her arm out of her socket, she aquiesed and we drove. it was really slow going, but we made it in time for the lunch. Later, her sister called to say the train we would have had to take to get there was washed out, so I got another snide "you were right" from her.

Lunch went okay; my wife's got more aunts/uncles/cousins than any Anglo I've ever known, so it can be confusing for an only child sometimes but these folks seemed okay. Thier girls reminded me of K-Fed and AliG (my neices for Dr. Bro In-Law) when they were littler. Then, we walked the girls around to Central Park Zoo because the grownups had tickets to Les Miz and we were waiting for Mrs.'s sister to finally arrive and take the kids so I could go to my dental appointment. Naturally, didn't happen like that so I had to call and reschedule for a week and a half from now. Since the infection seems to be waning down now thanks to the antibiotics I got Dr. BIL to write for me.

Finally, lab finals are tonight and lecture finals are Monday so it's probably just as well I don't have recuperation pain to push past to remember crap like cell interphases and anitcodon placement.

Went nearly bankrupt last night on groceries. Passed on cookies, ice cream and the like in favor of raw veggies and other healthy fare. Don't misunderstand, I have no intention of playing this "healthy eating" game any longer than I feel it's necessary but I do know it helps my system to keep things from getting too problematic.

Toodles.
