My First By-Line

So anyway, school started for me today. So far, so good. Before class I stopped by the office of The Bridge, the monthly newspaper cranked out by LaGuardia Community College, and picked up some advance copies of this months paper. Reading my stuff, even in a college paper, was such a giddy feeling. Woo-hoo.

No surprises on any other front yet: my disability application is still under investigation, the civil case is still on as far as I know (which is fine, since the fact that there's no jail time involved I'm actually looking forward to taking these clowns on in court), and my general medical condition is still crap and not looking to get better soon. I will say the new painkiller Lyrica, in conjunction with Vicodin, seems to be doing a lot better job keeping my back pain under control than Topomax/Ultram/et al ever did. I only hope it doesn't wear off...

Crazy Lady (aka Mom) got her purse stolen - AGAIN - at the V.A. hospital nursing building in the Bronx. This doesn't come as a surprise to anyone but her, even after her caseworker had told her on numerous occasions that she needed to keep her purse on her at all times and NOT in the unlocked night table next to her bed. I mean, she even left it in there and went to other floors! She keeps saying she isn't senile or nuts, but the evidence still piles up.

More in-law visits this week, and an advance warning that there will be more visitors during the holidays. At least I was told ahead of time. Now, if only I could get solid dates for gatherings and whatnot I'd be a happy camper. Too much to ask, tho'.

What to do for my birthday? I do not know. I was thinking of heading upstate to where my father is buried and pissing on his grave. It's only fair, considering he abandoned me. But I don't know yet.
