Before Christmas, we felt it was necessary to bring Bubba to his future throne and check the place out.
See, world domination is in his blood and what kind of selfless, doting parents would we be if we didn't let him case the joint?
Anyway, he was ecstatic about the Wii and the games/accessories that accompanied it, but less than caring about other presents/toys given to him. In fact, we have several unopened toys just collecting dust in our closet (some pretty decent, like an Air Hogs wall-climbing R.C. car and a ImagiNext pirate ship) that probably will never get played with and eventually re-gifted or donated or something.
He also treated his older cuz like his property, demanding most of his time and attention. Poor guy's like 19 now but he puts up with it somehow.
The Mrs. got a Cuisinart and a stand mixer, both of which she had dreamed of but didn't feel comfortable buying herself. Also a couple of cooking DS games. She was thrilled.
Me, I got gift cards (because people are afraid to buy me what I like in public) and an aluminum yo-yo. Practicing to bean suckers from 10 feet away...
My project-of-the-moment is restoring the 2nd bedroom for Bubba to use. I had to leave it alone for a year, in respect to my wife's wishes after her mother's passing. In December, I began - slowly.
First, I spackled any and all holes/cracks/etc. I could find and sealed up 2 mouse holes I found (no mice have been seen recently, but why risk it?). Next, painted the walls: lower 3rd with a grass green, upper 2/3rds with a sort of deep sky blue. Currently finishing the window frame in a brick brown/red. Next will be painting the ceiling a light sky blue, followed by new ceiling light fixtures and carpet (the old one is so nasty it doesn't even matter if I drop paint on it). Finally Super Mario wall stickers from the Nintendo Store and furniture moving. All in all it ought to be done by the end of the month, as I've been spending a couple of hours a night before bedtime working on it.
Bathroom's next, followed by the kitchen...
The coming year promises some - er - interesting times. Got a 10-year anniversary coming up. Plus, ought to have at least a comic book or a book done and out. If I can slap my muse awake, that is.
Come along for the ride, will you?
Peace and Love in '09,
jdk
