Civilians vs. Citizens

On AICN this week, I've noticed some people getting their panties in a bunch over JJ Abraham's early screening of "Star Trek" for troops overseas and the subsequent suggestion by one troop that the National Anthem be played in stateside theaters. Now, I could just let this pass, but these whiners pissed me off to a higher degree than usual...

See, everybody under 40 seems to forget that this country pioneered the concept of free speech; if you sincerely think that kingdoms and the like before the U.S. had this freedom, then you really need to do your history homework. After Greek democracy was overrun by the Romans, the idea of speech without consequence entered NO leader's mind until 1776.

The worst part is, assholes were all like "check Wikipedia!" AFTER EVERY HALF-ASSED STAB AT JUSTIFYING THIER COMMENTS! JEEZUS! Wikipedia?

It's heartbreaking, really. I almost wish Hary Knowles would block these comments and let them see what censorship is like. After all, his is a private website. He can do that. It's allowed. Just like if they got all pissy about it they could create thier own website to post thier venom, if they actually had motivation.

But no, it's better to shit on one of the few places you can talk out of your ass without fear of reprials (unlike many I could mention where jailtime, removal of tounges or hands or even death could result).

Point is, even though it's allowed to abuse free speech that doesn't mean I have to listen to you. So I'm not reading AICN anymore since most of the posters are anti-American morons who don't care if they can legitimately back up the crap that comes out of thier mouths.

This video remined me of them, so here's to you, buttmunchers...
